Rewards Dog Training FAQs
-
Private training starts with an online initial consultation, where we'll review your dog’s behavior and background, work with your dog, and discuss your goals. I’ll then recommend a training plan with the appropriate number of sessions. Each plan is tailored for you and your dog. If you want to move forward, we arrange payment for the training sessions and begin scheduling.
-
No. We will schedule an initial consultation, which is your only commitment at first. I’ll recommend a package of sessions at the end of the consultation and we can then begin the training plan.
-
I typically schedule sessions one to two weeks apart, depending on the training plan.
-
For online sessions, you need a device with a camera and internet access. I’ll schedule sessions using Zoom, and you’ll log in from home. We will talk during the session and I’ll also coach you as you work with your dog. We can view videos and I can demonstrate from my location as well.

Yes! There are many benefits to online training. Your dog's behavior isn't affected by my presence and you don’t have to manage their reaction to me. You and your dog can begin skills in a comfortable space without outside distractions, and we can practice skills where they are needed, such as stay at a door or leave it exercises at the table. Some behaviors, such as separation anxiety, are done entirely online.
-
Both! It is always a combination of the dog learning new skills and associations, and their people learning new skills and training methods, understanding more about dog behavior, how to apply those skills in the real world, and more.
-
No! Your puppy needs to be up-to-date on the recommended vaccination schedule but they do not need to complete it all to start training. In fact, it’s important to start training and socialization when puppies are in their optimal socialization period, which is up to 16 weeks of age.

No, and I think guarantees in dog training are misleading marketing gimmicks. A dog’s behavior can be affected by many things, just like ours. I could never guarantee a person’s behavior would never change in the future, so we cannot guarantee that about a dog’s behavior. I can guarantee that I will provide a a realistic training plan and expert guidance that is based on experience, education, and best practices for positive training outcomes.
